Welcome back to the Raw and Pure blog, where we’re dedicated to exploring natural solutions for sustainable gardening and holistic living. Today, we’re excited to share with you the wonders of comfrey—a powerhouse herb that can transform your garden with its bio-stimulant properties.
What is Comfrey Tea?
Comfrey tea is a natural and organic plant food that works wonders for all flowering plants, fruit plants, and vegetables. It’s a bio-stimulant that provides a rich source of nutrients to promote healthy growth and vibrant blooms. And the best part? It’s incredibly easy and inexpensive to make.
How to make a Comfrey Tea?
- Gather Comfrey Leaves:Start by harvesting fresh comfrey leaves from your garden. Choose healthy, mature leaves for the best results.
- Fill a Bucket with Leaves:Fill a large bucket with comfrey leaves, packing them in tightly.
- Add Water:Cover the leaves with water, filling the bucket to the top. It’s okay if the leaves float—just make sure they’re fully submerged.
- Wait:Allow the mixture to steep for several weeks, stirring occasionally. As the leaves decompose, they’ll release nutrients into the water, creating a potent plant feed.
- Strain and Use:Once the mixture has turned into a dark, smelly liquid, strain out the solids and dilute the tea with water. Use the diluted solution to water your plants, either as a foliar spray or directly to the soil
Making Comfrey Concentrate:
If the strong smell of comfrey tea is off-putting, you can make a concentrated version instead. Simply skip the step of adding water and weigh down the leaves in a draining bucket to collect the thick black liquid as it decomposes. This concentrate doesn’t smell as bad as the tea and can be diluted to a ratio of about 1 part concentrate to 15 parts water before use.
